Amer is an ancient city spread over 4 square kilometres. It is 11 kilometres from Amber city of Jaipur. Though Jaipur has many forts, the Amer Fort is the most popular. Because this fort used to be the royal residence of the kings of Jaipur.

For the protection of this fort, a 12-kilometre wall is built around it, which looks like the Great Wall of China. You can go to this wall, but you have to climb 800 stairs. Special arrangements were made to keep the palace cool. It was not possible to carry the water of the river to such heights, so people used to keep their palace cool through tree plants.

In this palace, you will see a lot of underground cellars, to which no one is allowed to go. In this cellar, the kings used to keep their treasures, grains, and weapons.

Inside the palace are the royal rooms of the king and separate royal rooms for all the 12 queens. Which has a lot of royal carvings. There are special routes to reach all 12 queens. Amer Fort History

This fort was built by Raja Man Singh in 1592. Raja Man Singh was a descendant of Lord Rama. In 1592, Raja Man Singh built the Amber Fort on the relics of the Meenas. Subsequently, the palace expanded with the changing of kings. And in the last, the fort was completed by King Sawai Jai Singh. In 1700, King Sawai Jai Singh lived with his family in this palace.

In fact, the city of Amer was settled by Meenas. Later Raja Man Singh built a palace here for his royal residence which is today known as Amer Fort. The capital of Rajasthan used to be Kachhwaha. But ever since this fort was built, Jaipur became the capital of Rajasthan. This Amer Fort is one of the largest forts in India.

The construction of this fort took about 200 years. Raja Man Singh started building this fort. But then this fort was not much bigger. Finally, King Sawai Jai Singh who came to live in this fort expanded this fort. Jaipur is named after this king.

In Amer Fort, you can see some small old rooms. Which used to be the houses of the servants of the kings of that time. Jodha Bai was also the queen of the same princely state. In 2007, the Amer Fort was included in the 37 World Heritage Site.
